Conseils d'efficacité énergétique pour la maison

Energy efficiency at home has become a main concern for most people around the world. Consumers around the world are under pressure from price rises by energy suppliers, and this has generated an increasing demand for energy-saving ideas and technologies. Fossil-based resources decrease around the world, however the demand for energy increases, so it means the need for energy efficiency and more sustainable sources of energy becomes urgent. So let’s consider ways in which you can bring better energy efficiency into your home.

Heating control system

Looking at simple changes first like your heating controls. If you have a timed system, could you alter the timer, so that the heating comes on later, and goes off earlier? Do you change the heating timer according to the seasons, or do they remain the same all year round? The opinions vary on best practices here. Some people think that you should cut back the timer, and have the heating active for the least amount of time. However, others take the view that it’s better to leave it on all the time, on the basis that it does most of its work and uses more energy when heating rooms up from cold. Try both ways yourself and see what works best for you.

2- Water tank insulation

If you have a hot water tank, think about doubling up on the insulation around it. If the insulating jacket is a loose fit, or if it’s used, replace it and consider putting another one on top of it.

3- Draughtproofing

Simple draughtproofing can often bring benefits, even if this is only a slight increase in comfort for the occupants. Sealing strips on doors and windows can decay over the years, and a tour around your home armed with some fresh draughtproofing strip from the DIY store might be a well-spent hour or two.

4- Efficient lighting

Actual European legislation forbids the sale of incandescent light bulbs in favor of efficient lighting equipment. Actually, the electrical shops and DIY stores are full of energy-saving types these days. Led lights are now leading the trend in the market. Switching to energy-saving lighting means a better longer lifetime, durability, lesser energy use, lesser waste, and safer.

5- Loft insulation

Talking of loft insulation, how deep is yours? The chances are that it doesn’t come up to the recommended depths – from 220 to 270mm for the various types, for instance, cellulose, rock wool, and glass wool.

Well, we’re almost done and haven’t even considered the ‘big-ticket’ improvements like double glazing, cavity wall insulation, boiler upgrades, and the like.
